How To Solve "There Are No Active Mixer Devices Available" Error Message in Windows?
Solution 1:
Go to Start > Run and type in: services.msc , and hit enter.Scroll down to "Windows Audio", right-click on it and select Properties, set the startup type to Automatic, click Apply and then click the Start button.
Solution 2:
Computer was giving the error “no active mixer devices available” whenever they clicked on the volume icon in their task bar. This problem came up out of nowhere and it was almost of if the computer never had sound before! In the Sound and Audio Devices applet in Control Panel, everything was grayed out and there was a message saying “No audio device” under the Volume tab
Upon checking under the Hardware section via the System Properties, we found a couple of yellow exclamation points next to Multimedia Audio Controller. Now this issue would have been easy to fix if the computer had a separate sound card installed and would have simply involved downloading and re-installing the latest drive for the card. Sometimes the driver becomes corrupt and the sound disappears. In this case, just go to Dell, HP, or your manufacture’s web site and download the audio drivers.
However, if your sound card is integrated into your motherboard, you’ll have to re-install the motherboard sound drivers. This is a little trickier because you need to first find the make and model of your motherboard. You can figure out the model of your motherboard in three ways:
1. Open the computer and find the sticker or embedded name of the manufacturer. Be sure it’s not the maker of the chipset, as that will not help.
2. Everest software – a free app that will help you identify your motherboard.
3. Belarc Advisor – Another nifty little app that will give you a crap load of information about your computer including the motherboard.
Once you have the model information, you’ll need to perform a search for the number or try to go to the web site of the maker. Find your driver, install it and restart the computer. You should now have your sound back!

ASUS O!Play HDP-R1 1080p media streamer on sale now for $100
ASUS’ diminutive O!Play HDP-R1 HD Media Player has finally gone on sale, with the 1080p-capable box priced at $99.99. Announced back in June, the O!Play offers playback of local, network or internet content, via various USB 2.0, eSATA or wired ethernet ports.
There’s also a full remote control and nifty GUI, while AV connections include HDMI, composite audio/video and optical digital audio. File type support includes DivX, Xvid, MKV and MPG, among others, together with MP3, AAC and FLAC audio.
Audio support includes the ability to bitstream or decode Dolby Digital and DTS Surround audio. What you don’t get for your hundred bucks is WiFi, but you could add a wireless ethernet bridge should the mood take you. Still, it’ll likely handle high-definition content better over a wired link.
Haleron Swordfish Net 102 Dual netbook available
I have often lamented the fact that most of the netbooks on the market are mere carbon copies of each other. The machines offer the same internal components and features for the most part and once you use one, the other netbooks are pretty much the same. Haleron has a netbook called the Swordfish Net 102 Dual that is not more of the same
The big difference between the Swordfish Dual netbook is that the Swordfish has dual Intel Atom N270 processors inside. I shudder to think that what will do to the battery life of the machine with only a 3-cell battery inside.
Still, if you don’t travel that often and just want a powerful machine that takes up little space this might be perfect for you. Other features include 2GB of RAM, 160GB HDD, 1.3MP webcam, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi and built-in 2G modem. The screen is the typical 10.2-inch 1024 x 600 netbook fare. The machine is available now for $449.
Jabra debuts the Cruiser hands free Bluetooth speaker phone
Hands free Bluetooth speakerphones are more appealing to me than Bluetooth headsets. I don’t like to wear headsets and the speakerphone is more comfortable to use. Not all Bluetooth speaker phones are created equal, many of them have poor call quality. Jabra has announced a new Bluetooth hands free speakerphone called the Cruiser that promises good call quality.
The Cruiser clips to the visor of your car and uses dual mics to pick up your voice and cancel extraneous sounds like road noise. Another cool feature is that the device will announce who is calling you from your phone book if your phone supports the feature.
The Cruiser supports Bluetooth 2.1 A2DP and AVRCP for streaming music through the speaker. The device makes voice announcements for caller ID and pairing. A FM transmitter is built in as well to send audio to your car stereo. Two mobile phones can be connected at the same time and talk time is up to 14 hours with standby time of up to 13 days. A car charger is included with the device. The device will first hit Asia at about $129. Availability in the US isn’t available at this time.
